Merimac Links we Like

Although Merimac is very much about the love of music, partying, dancing and socializing, we have posted links to all sorts of sites.   We must do our part and get important local and global messages out to all.  We know after you spend 60 seconds on any of these sites, you'll be hooked and asking the same question we did "Why haven't I seen these amazing sites before?".

David Suzuki Foundation!  Eddie's a big fan of David Suzuki!  Subscribe to their monthly news letter, you will thank me!  If you're concerned for your own immediate and long-term well being (not to mention the rest of the world's), check out what this global hero has to say.  This will only take two minutes out of your day and you'll feel great that you don't always just sit back and complain all the time.  Not that you're like that anyway.  Save the world!!!  Sign up to the David Suzuki Foundation monthly email to help keep environmental issues in check.

Planet Earth we call Home:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqxENMKaeCU
A great documentary describing our current presence on earth and the state we're in..

350 is the number that leading scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide--measured in "Parts Per Million" in our atmosphere. 350 PPM--it's the number humanity needs to get back to as soon as possible to avoid runaway climate change.  www.350.org

At the end of this article  "Is your home a toxic dump?"  Written by "David Suzuki Foundation"

Who Killed the Electric Car  (And is killing us & the planet) Unbelievable!!!!  As car and gas consumers, what info and advertising are we being fed?  This is a truly amazing site dedicated to all the crap the oil companies, car companies and government are putting us through.  Be sure to read the myths regarding Electric Cars, you'll want to own one for sure!.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ZENN Cars - No Emissions, No Noise - Canada's answer to wonderful, clean, efficient, high tech cars!  Now if we can only get the Canadian government to recognize them as "vehicles" so we can buy some!  Hard to believe that the year 2008 a Canadian doesn't have a choice to buy an electric car (a Canadian made car at that!! Even American's are buying them up like crazy!  Check out their links too!

MEGAWATT MOTORWORKS - Just Damn fun with electric cars.  Find out why (and watch) why electrics cars will "smoke" combustion engines in the very near future not only with regards to efficiency, pollutions, noise and cost effectiveness but also with raw speed and power.

Darkness to Light website   Really great article to protect our children:

Canadian Tire had opened a website dedicated to renewable resources which was great but I can't find it now.  They still do carry a lot of great renewable products!
Finally a large commercial store has taken this important step for man kind.  I think it's important that every Canadian educate themselves on renewable resources.  More importantly support the industry and manufacturers and buy them!  They will help save our environment and will pay you back you back ten-fold in the long run.
Get More Power. Naturally. Canadian Tire makes it easier than ever to start generating your own power. Find out how.

The Sad Passing Of Common Sense
Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years.

No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair, and maybe it was my fault.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.
Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Panadol, sun lotion or a sticky plaster to a student; but, could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.
Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar can sue you for assault.
Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realise that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason.
He is survived by three stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, Someone Else is to Blame, and I'm A Victim.
Not many attended his funeral because so few realised he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on.
